Key milestones

NAB was established in 1858 as National Bank of Australasia.  With our colonial links we opened our first international office in London in 1864.  Our network grew rapidly from the late 1960’s with NAB progressively opening offices across Asia and the United States.  Our over 500 staff across Asia now service over 20,000 individuals, corporate and institutional customers.

Since 1992, Bank of New Zealand (BNZ), one of New Zealand’s largest banks has been part of the Group.  In 2000 NAB acquired MLC Limited, our wealth management business for AU$4.56b.  In 2008, we launched UBank our innovative online bank. In 2009 we acquired 80% of the private wealth management division of Goldman Sachs JBWere Pty Ltd in Australia, and in 2016 we acquired remaining portion of JBWere Pty Ltd to become its full owner.
